For Twin Cities residents like us who own a weekend lake home in this area, it is difficult to handle the long-distance arrangements necessary for a major home remodel. In our quest for the perfect builder, we had very high expectations and needed to find someone with sufficient experience, talent and dependability. After interviewing a number of local and metropolitan builders, we had the good fortune of meeting Dave Erwin. We discovered his work at Thumper Pond where we had met friends for lunch followed by a tour of the beautiful condominiums Dave had built. We placed a call to Dave and by the following weekend we began meeting with him on a regular basis as he helped us design our dream home. Dave’s creativity, experience with building high-end homes and exquisite sense of style allowed us to put together a broad scope of work. Dave’s next step was to draw upon his wide circle of experienced associates to turn this macro view into a detailed plan. Dave’s team included specialists in all areas including structural engineers, Wayzata-based designers with experience in creating the “Hampton’s look” we sought, the owners of several well-established electrical, plumbing, granite fabrication and painting firms, window designers, appliance showroom representatives, fireplace distributors and interior designers from Ethan Allen. Although Dave primarily procured material from local companies, he did a great deal of research about what special appointments should be included if we were to capture the exact look we desired. He was incredibly resourceful and obtained specialty materials from companies all over the United States in order to translate our vision into reality.

Just before the work began, Dave created a detailed schedule and then proceeded to meet his schedule – a true rarity in the building profession. Dave was also very personable, accessible and flexible during the entire remodel. With a large project, one’s original plan changes almost daily and Dave handled these changes with patience, insight, thoughtful suggestions and reasonable charge. We have built and remodeled several very fine homes in our lifetime but we must say that this remodel was the most pleasant and exciting experience of all. Our home has evolved into something far more spectacular than we would have ever predicted and we owe it to Dave and his associates. We cannot imagine that any other builder could bring to the table the talent of Dave Erwin and cannot find proper words to fully describe the appreciation and respect we have for Dave.
